Are you the type of person who always says “yes”?I’ve come to learn that it is very important to learn to say “no”.It’s okay.People are still going to like you. They may even respect you more because they know you are honest.
I’m not saying to say “no” to someone who really needs your help.I’m talking about turning down that meeting that you really do not want to attend or that birthday party that you don’t want to be a guest at.
Think for a moment how you feel when you say “yes” to something that you really don’t want to do.If you’re like I once was,you can’t sleep at night and you think about it too much.It weighs on your mind. You try to find ways out.Whatever you’re saying to yourself,if you really wanted to go,you wouldn’t have all of these thoughts.
So,why not just say “no” from the beginning?Maybe you feel like if you don’t show up at the meeting (by the way,it is not one you must attend),your boss isn’t going to like you or your co-workers won’t respect you.Maybe you feel as if your mom,dad or sisters won’t love you as much if you don’t do everything for them what they ask every occasion.
If these people are your true friends, family members,or a good boss, they will like or love you the same no matter what.People treat you the way you teach them to,and if you’re someone who always says “yes”,then that’s what they’re expecting.
You need to do what is right for you.Of course we do have real obligations in life to fulfill, but we do not have to do everything others want us to do.
21.Which of the following statements would the writer agree with?
A.We should try to do what our friends ask us to do.
B.We should help others in need.
C.Always saying “yes” means you are dishonest.
D.Always saying “no” means you are brave.
22.Generally speaking,we agree to do what we hate to do because we________.
A.have a bad habit B.have a kind heart
C.have much concern D.have obligations
23.The writer believes that if you say “no” to your family members,you’ll________.
A.have the same relationship with them as before
B.have a loose relationship with them
C.disappoint them
D.upset them
24.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Learn to Make a Right Choice
B.To Be Yourself
C.Do What You Want to Do
D.Learn to Say “No”

We all know that money can‘t buy happiness.., but many times we act as if we‘d be happier with a bit more money. We are conditioned to want to be rich; we are trained to want the latest gadget or style that television tells us to want; we want to earn more money because then we‘ll have the good life.
But none of that will bring us happiness. No matter how much we earn, no matter how much we have in the bank, no matter how nice our clothing or cars or toys, none of it will make us happier. And the sad thing is that it could take us decades of pursuing wealth and luxury items before we realize this.
So what will bring us happiness?Luckily,it‘s these three things that don‘t cost a thing. These three things have been proven by surveys of hundreds of thousands of people about what they have, what their lives are like, and how happy they are.
Here they are,the Three Secrets to Happiness:
1.Good relationships. We have a human need to be close to and to be intimate with other human beings.Having good and supportive friendships,a strong marriage or close and loving relationships with our family members will make us much more likely to be happy.
Action steps:Take time, today,to spend time with your loved ones,to tell them what they mean to you,to listen to them, and to develop your relationships with them.
2.Positive thinking.I‘m obviously a big proponent of positive thinking as the best way to achieve your goals, and it turns out that it can lead to happiness too.Optimism and self-esteem are some of the best indicators of people who lead happy lives.Happy people feel empowered, take control of their lives, and have a positive outlook on life.
Action steps:Make positive thinking a habit. In fact, this should be one of the first habits you develop.Get into the habit of squashing all negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones.Instead of “I can‘t”think “I can”.It may sound silly, but it works for me,every time.
3.Flow.This is a popular concept on the Internet these days—a state we enter when we are completely focused on the work or task before us.We are so buried in our task that we lose track of time.Having work and leisure that get you in this state of flow will almost undoubtedly lead to happiness.
People find greatest enjoyment not when they‘re passively mindless, but when they‘re absorbed in a mindful challenge.
Action steps:Find work that you have a passion for.Seriously—this is an extremely important step.Find hobbies that you have a passion for.Turn off the TV—this is the opposite of flow—and go outside and do something that truly engages you.
You‘ve been given the Three Secrets to Happiness.Don‘t waste them!

Slow parenting means parenting children in the contact of nature without any interference of materialistic influence. We can also term it as “self-raising”.In slow parenting children are allowed to do what they think proper and parents just keep a watch over the child.Curiosity of the child leads to exploring and discovering things.Parents provide little help only when it’s too necessary, otherwise keep themselves away from the child and just have a look on him/her.This brings about a feeling of self-dependency and they are encouraged to solve their problems.
This is a natural way of learning. When a child is left to learn in a natural environment, the child’s natural development takes place.Influence of any materialistic way doesn’t let the mind develop naturally.Watching TV,playing video games or joining classes of dance, swimming or any other sports will not let the mind develop naturally.
Here creativity of their mind is developed. They explore ideas. The logic behind this is that the kids of animals learn by nature,so can our kids.So let our children play in the garden,to watch flowers, plants, birds, butterflies and other gifts of nature. In the classes of dance, swimming etc.their creativity is influenced and their natural creativity is suppressed. In these classes they are overburdened and can’t enhance their creativity. So let them play in the open air or garden withont any burden instead of joining classes.
Generally parents give toys to their children and explain how to operate them. But those parents who believe in slow parenting give toys and observe how the children are managing them.Their skill to learn and understand comes out.Maybe the process is slow, but it will be their exploration, which will make them self-dependent,and self-capable to learn.
29.In slow parenting,parents________.
A.give the whole directions to what their children do
B.keep a close watch over their children
C.give their children freedom to do what they think proper
D.set limits to what their children do
30.What is the main advantage of slow parenting according to the passage?
A.Keeping children away from materialistic influence.
B.Arousing children’s curiosity.
C.Making children interested in exploring nature
D.Helping children to be independent.
31.We can infer from the third paragraph that________.
A.exploring nature is a good way of slow parenting
B.children can’t learn by nature like the kids of animals
C.slow parenting should be done in a logical way
D.children should join some classes
32.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Different parenting styles.
B.The requirements of slow parenting.
C.Slow parenting and its advantages.
D.The author’s attitude towards slow parenting.
